Refrigeration
We replaced the old SeaFreeze unit with a Fridgidaire 10.1 cubic foot unit purchased at our local appliance store. It fit perfectly in the vacated opening and provided more refrigerator capacity and a freezer with separate temperature controls. It has an easy to maintain Stainless Steel finish and draws very little power. I have photos if interested. Rick Panowicz 4734

First, it depends on your layout. Jerry built a cardboard box out the exact size of the fridge to see if he could get it in and had about ½ inch or so clearance. We have friends with a 47 and unfortunately, they could not maneuver the box in theirs since they had the higher bar counter (we don’t) and a different cabinet layout that the box would not fit by.

By the way, you can remove the feet from the unit which helped it fit in.

We have hijacked your post and the topic and have sort of moved on to other diversions, but two of the Vitifrigo units we used as our top unit would store lots of beer, and maybe vegetables and fruits and other space stealing stuff. I think they would fit quite nicely and you saw them on 5388 (best 53 in the fleet) a few months ago. We loved the drawer units also which could do either function.

But what about the beer?

Hi Jenni
I’m very interested in how you fitted the Fischer Paykel fridge freezer.
Could we have photos please.

Hi Glenda,

Jerry and I replaced the fridge in our 43’ Selene with a Fisher & Paykel stainless 13 cu. ft and absolutely loved it. He had to do a bit of modification on the woodwork around the edge, but it fit in great. These should be standard on new boats!

Wish we could do the same in our new (to us) 53’, but we only have drawers and no stand up fridge space.

Good luck, Jenni

With all due respect, the tiny fridges you speak of were used only for storing Pepto and Maalox in my “college years” when I lived in a “group home” (now defined differently but with little distinction) with my Rugby team at ODU. We kept those near our sleeping quarters. The real fridge at that house was a walk in, easily capable of storing at least six kegs and ten cases of beer, and lots of burgers and frozen pizzas of course. Not a bad place to sleep off a rough night either.

The years at ODU ended when I lost my college deferment and had to fight the draft with my conscientious objector status. Survived that ordeal and got scared, so transferred to American University In DC and focused on other stuff.

Corey and Jack…thank you. I should have attached a photo. We have drawer freezers where some have a set of stairs so I am just looking for refrigeration.

Do you mean the little fridges with not even a real freezer compartment or do you mean a college apartment fridge? We have the latter:

Good morning Glenda -

I know you and Greg are enjoying your time in the Bahamas. Back in Virginia, the snow has finally melted. Hooray! Going for a motorcycle ride later today.

I don’t know if you are replacing your regular units or something else as your message was not clear to me. I don’t know what “college size” units are - when I was in college I ate and drank a lot so I preferred a commercial “walk in” fridge to keep the beer cold. The refrigeration we installed on 5388 when the original equipment failed was all Vitifrigo, photo attached. The top door unit was refrigeration as was the bottom drawer. The upper drawer (middle in the stack) was freezer, as was the large unit in the lazarette. The installation was easy - I did it myself with some strong young backs to get the old equipment off and the new equipment in place. Minor carpentry work only was needed.

Looking to replace possibly two “college size” refrigerator units. Interested in seeing pictures or hearing what others have done to replace their refrigerator units.
