SMOG (Selene Motorcycle Owners Gang)

There is a local shop, Chesapeake Custom Embroidery and Screen Printing, located in California, Maryland, pretty close to my home that does all of this, from design to stitching and printing. They are pretty high end and can do just about anything, including screen printing custom short and long sleeved T’s, collared shirts, wall hangings, table cloths, etc. They are an option if it turns out that sourcing from China is too much of a challenge. I would love to get Howard’s input before going that route. I know he is very busy with the Grand Opening coming up and the expansion. I definitely want to see his artwork, especially his rendering of the Selene yacht which we certainly want to use, and then give him the option of producing the material in China or here.

We will get it done.

I have a thought that might impact having the Colors embroidered. If the embroidery folks say there is too much detail in the design due to all the lettering, or if the FF want to simplify the Patch, we can consider replacing the top rocker where we display the entire formal name “SELENE MOTORCYCLE OWNERS GANG” with “SMOG” and delete the “SMOG” name from the lower portion of the Patch, leaving “- PLANET EARTH -“ in place. It would be simpler, but I don’t think really better IMO. I would like to keep it all if possible.

I do not think there would be a problem including all the text with the 12” patch, but the 4” patch might be a challenge; I just don’t know. We can always wait and see if the stitchers complain. I do love the entire formal name myself, but want to get input from the other FF. A lot of good ideas and changes have come from the FF and we want to get this perfect the first time. What say ye?

Wish I was there with you in Hong Kong. Puffy eyes definitely well earned and deserved there, so I am jealous.

I thought the same thing looking at the nose of the Selene without an anchor or two on the bow pulpit. Definitely a little “piggy” looking. Let’s give Howard a chance to do his thing with my draft rendition and hope for a better nose job.

Howard - If you are reading this, please fix it! It is about the snout! Maybe a nice Ultra anchor there instead.

FF (Brian Calvert, Howard Chen, John Midlige, Roger Nowakowski, Brian Richards and myself) -

After receiving a lot of input, I attach my final draft of the SMOG logo I am submitting to Howard for his artistic contributions. Important touches include much meaning. The logo is designed with close attention to the Rules of MC Patches.

Key points are:

Top rocker announces the name of our gang and our status as a Motorcycle Club.

The Selene yacht, with burgee with Selene logo (all to be detailed by Howard), establishes our status as mariners.

The motorcycle establishes our status as bikers (with our feet in the water because we ride the seven seas).

USA is our chapter because we are located across the US, with Brian and Howard being welcomed into our chapter.

FF is for the original “Founding Fathers” here in 2025. Future members will not wear this designation.

SMOG - our Gang’s unofficial name and acronym.

PLANET EARTH is the territory we cruise and ride.

Bottom rocker is our credo - Born to ride the seven seas.

Colors - Gray smoggy background, water blue, boat white, lightning bolt, cove stripe and wings gold, outlines black.

Sizes - 4” for a shoulder patch (or small tattoo) and 12” for back of sleeveless vest (or big bad tattoo).

I will send this to Howard today and ask him to go to work. I expect he will send a proposal before long for us to review. I will share that upon receipt. If you have any additional comments at this stage, send them to me and I will pass them on to Howard.
