Brothers -
I know Howard and Roger are together, drinking tea, eating bony chicken, crawling over boats, and talking boats and motorcycles. Let’s give them some feedback and information so they can finalize the SMOG patches.
Assuming we have a design we like, we need to discuss sizes and construction of patches. I recommend two sizes initially, diameters of 4.5” for sleeve and 12” for back of vest, to fit our clothes. Regarding construction, quality patches are generally twill with some level of embroidery, 75% being popular and practical as it can show detail. The twill portion of the SMOG patch would be the gray smoggy background, possibly blending into blue twill for the water if that can be accomplished (otherwise blue embroidery for water). The remaining details would all be embroidery in the selected colors, black, white (the boat), gold and blue if we need to embroider the water related detail. Regarding attachment, I recommend sew on patches as they are the most secure and permanent once applied. There are iron on and glue on patches available (and even stickers), but these alternatives all have issues (durability and adhesion) and are not as classy as sew on patches.
Regarding production, Howard spoke of having the patches embroidered in China which would be great. If he can arrange that and send the patches to me (perhaps via Selene folks traveling to the yard in the near future for the Grand Opening),I will distribute them. I know Howard and Roger also discussed having a metal plate with the SMOG logo stamped onto it for the FF - which would be awesome! I would love to have one of those displayed on my Selene. If for some reason we need to have the patches created elsewhere, there are vendors available. I am hoping Howard accepts this challenge and runs with it.
Please share your thoughts so that Roger can go over them with Howard right away.
