SMOG (Selene Motorcycle Owners Gang)

SMOG LOGO PROPOSAL - FF call to order.

Great work Brothers -

I agree with John that we should move the waterline down so as to not crowd the top of the logo. However, the rider and bike should move down as well, so that the biker has his feet on the pegs in the water.

I like the idea of a lightning bolt in the sky, maybe coming from the two o’clock position down towards the water. I also like the idea of wings on the biker, indicating freedom, but don’t want the logo to get too busy. Thoughts?

Colors - I suggest that we tint the water blue, just cuz’. The sky should be gray in my opinion, sort of SMOGGY. And the boat should be white. Thoughts?

Size - We need two I believe, a large patch for the back of the sleeveless vest or jacket, and a smaller patch for the shoulder or chest panel. Personally, I want both.

Biker - I attach a front profile picture that is much better than my sketch. Regarding his head, plain in helmet as in photo, skull (without crossbones) maybe, or pirate head (cool but maybe a little silly?). I am sort of leaning towards plain. Thoughts?

Selene logo above windshields of boat - I drew one in, but Howard likely can do a lot better. Like that?

Keep the thoughts coming! Roger is meeting with Howard beginning Tuesday or Wednesday and I would love to complete the project and get our patches going.

Don’t forget to look at the biker profile drawing. I like it!

Thanks - Easy Ridin’ Jack

I’m very excited about this

Great work Jack

Pirate head sounds very cool if it can be big enough to be discerned.

IMHO-

Move waterline down slightly so that top of vessel is not crowding upper rocker.

Lightning Bolts. Definitely Lightning Bolts, weather is always a large factor in these 2 activities. (Boating & Riding) We want to acknowledge and keep happy Poseidon or Neptune, or both.

Colors - I’m the absolute last person on the planet to ask about this subject. I’m not colorblind but my wife says I must be based upon my wardrobe choices. Anyway, I have a possible ace in the hole. CJ Higginbotham is an amazingly talented graphical artist/designer and has her own company called Leap Creative Services. She is also a proud Selene owner with her husband Stick. MV Trilogy Selene Solo 43 #43-11. CJ is also publisher of the MTOA Turtle Times magazine. She is incredibly busy so I don’t expect her to do much before next week in time to present to Howard but I’ll ask if she would throw her 2 cents into the pot for us as this is her bread and butter so to speak.

Size - Size, as we all know, MATTERS. Be it a Selene or a motorcycle. What is your thinking about the size of this patch? Are we looking at a full patch for back of jacket or a 3-4 inch circle for a sleeve? A full size back of jacket patch allows us to include more detail and be much more stunning. A small sleeve patch would mean we’re less about detail and more about basic imagery.

I'm attaching 2 pictures of the plastic cups CJ designed for our drinking club with a Yacht problem at our marina in Madeira Beach, FL to give you guys and gals an idea of her creative abilities.

As Stick Higginbotham would say……I’m just askin’ questions.

Good idea Brian. Let’s keep the juices flowing and share thoughts. We will get this done!

Looking good Jack! If you're not sure about the bikers head being a skull and cross bones, maybe a pirate head is more friendly.

FF -

Decided to stay on my beautiful Selene another night, eat pizza, drink beer and finish the dang SMOG logo proposal for consideration. We need our patch. Photo of my amateurish sketch is attached. I listened, digested, did research, cogitated and came up with a proper logo for our patch I believe.

There is really a LOT to learn about patches for motorcycle clubs. I won’t go into great detail here, but it is fascinating. You can actually get killed for bad patching behavior. I believe I have not risked any lives with the design. Do a deep dive if interested.

Short notes:

The patch signifies a club’s identity. Circular patches, such as the proposed patch, include most information inside the circle, although supplemental rockers and bars can be worn, indicating special attention to an accomplishment, award, honor, etc. The top rocker on our patch indicates the name of the club (SMOG), the fact that we are a Motorcycle Club (MC), and identifies our chapter location, mostly USA, but Brian Calvert would be entitled to wear a patch reflecting his location if desired. Same for any member who lives at another splendid location.

The color scheme has much meaning and I have intentionally done the sketch in black and white. Please do your research and let me know what you think about appropriate colors.

Symbols and letters have much meaning. The “FF” designation on the left indicates Founding Father. This recognition will never be replicated after the initial patches are distributed. However, other symbols can be located at that place on the patch or across on the right where “XX” is located. That might show a rank, role, or other recognition.

The club symbol has much meaning. We are bikers and boaters. We love planet earth, land and sea, and the adventures provided thereby. We have our feet in the water, on our bike’s pegs, joyfully moving forward on land and on the water, wherever we can explore. Our Selene yacht is shown, following powerfully and protectively. The SMOG emblem is boldly presented underwater, and the geographic reach of our club is announced below, PLANET EARTH, where we frolic anywhere, because we are BORN TO RIDE THE SEVEN SEAS, founded in 2025.

Possible additions I considered, but left off the sketch and subject to discussions:

Biker’s face as a skull - Indicates a disregard for the normal, but skull and crossbones says you have been bad (real bad). Gotta be careful here.

Wings on the biker - Would indicated freedom.

Lightning bolt in sky - Indicates power and strength.

Many more, but that might do us.

Please share your thoughts. I want Roger to be able to discuss this with Howard when he is in China next week. When we finalize this Howard may create some emblems on metal and he may handle the embroidery.

Roger - Please print and share this with Howard and get his input.

Thanks to all - Easy Ridin’ Jack
