The Founding Fathers (FF) of The Selene Motorcycle Owners Gang (SMOG), announced alphabetically, are Jack Burgess, Brian Calvert, Howard Chen, John Midlige, Roger Nowakowski and Brian Richards. Others have expressed interest, but did not request inclusion as FF. If I missed anyone, please speak up and the list can be amended accordingly. Email me privately if you wish at jacktburgess1@gmail.com.
Howard Chen is excited to complete the SMOG logo (He seemed to be sketching feverishly when we spoke yesterday and is suggesting spots on our boats to put a SMOG logo on a bulkhead). I am trying my hardest to get a final version drawn to circulate among the FF for approval. In true Selene fashion, perfection takes time and I will do my best to get this out soon. Howard wants to have the emblem emblazoned on some sort of tinned plate for distribution to the FF. I don’t quite understand the process, but the final product will be a treasure I expect. He also wants to have the SMOG patches embroidered in China and will send them to me for distribution. FF’s will receive their patches immediately upon receipt and future members will receive theirs when they patch in to SMOG.
FF Roger Nowakowski and his bride are visiting Howard at the yard next week and perhaps we will have a logo design finalized around that time. Roger and Howard can discuss the final design and how we can move forward with having the patches embroidered. I can’t wait to see them!
I am not making excuses for my lack of timeliness (yes I am), but I have been busy with caring for my lovely wife and best friend Terry who had bilateral knee replacement surgery last Thursday and the sale of Shangri-La, 5388.
BRAVADO POLICE - Hit delete now! Gonna brag a little.
Terry is only the second person this year to have bilateral knee replacement surgery at VCU Hospital, a very busy teaching hospital with a dedicated joint replacement program. She not only walked the day of surgery, unexpected by her surgeon, but has been knocking it out of the park (with tears in her eyes) every day since, pushing the envelope and wowing the MD’s, PT’s, OT’s RN’s and family. She transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility Tuesday and our daughter Sarah spelled me to be with her 24/7 while I handled the survey and sale of Shangri-La.
Shangri-La, 5388 completed a successful survey and is reportedly the first pre-owned Selene 53 to ever sell for more than one million dollars. She pretty much sold herself, even cruising against the tide considering the introduction made to the buyer - more on that another time. Contrary to some expert opinions, 900k is not the best you can do with a 53, the first offer is not necessarily the best offer, a refit and a proper layout both really do matter immensely, and the value of your vessel is not “monumental” simply because it involves seven figures, but is just the actual value of your vessel. Only YOU know that value. Hope to close next week.
I will get a look at my new Triumph Scrambler 1200 X when I drive to Richmond tomorrow to be with Terry for the last few days of her stay at Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Center. The Scrambler 1200 X, to be named La La La (6047 is Shangri-La, new tender is La La, so it works), is already tricked out with the accessories I chose and I can’t wait to see her. I will post baby pics.
Easy Ridin’ Jack
